Beautiful creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl review
This is an easy 5 stars for me, I will start by giving a basic synopsis and then get into my review.
Ethan lives in the small southern town of Gatlin which he doesn't like at all and cannot wait to get out.
"the ones who are bound to stay or too dumb to go. everyone else finds a way out"
Lena is the first person to move to this town since the third grade (according to Ethan)she is instantly looked down upon and seen as different.
which isnt exactly false.
Lena is a Castor (technically a witch) she has powers that are seen throughout the novel, the main ones being controlling the weather and shattering glass.
Lena is counting down to her 16th birthday where she will be claimed for the light or the dark. this book shows her complications along the way including her strong feelings for Ethan and her fear of hurting him.
So, lets start with the pros of this book
The synopsis is very intriguing which is the main reason i started this novel. (as well as the recent release of the movie...which was disappointing in my eyes because Ive read the book) It is written very well and explained in great detail. The story is different to other paranormal books on the market.
The authors really wrote the characters well, you are able to empathise and most importantly imagine every character and their personality. When this is poorly done it can really ruin a book in my eyes but they really captured my attention. this made the book very long because of the description but that is by no means a bad things.
The love story is realistic! unlike twilight were in my opinion the love story was off putting and not realistic, this books romance goes at a nice pace and develops the relationship strongly to the readers.
The scenery is great in the novel, easy to imagine and read without being drawn out and draining which i LOVED. I love being able to be absorbed by a new world surrounded by many different people and this book did just that!
Cons:
There wasn't any cons in my opinion - at one point i did guess an aspect of the ending but it didnt make the book any less amazing with an amazing ending.
I cannot wait to get my hands on the second book!
